A seven week programme of archaeological works has got underway to ensure the heritage of the site is understood, recorded, and preserved prior to the start of construction in the Autumn.
The landmark housing-led proposals are set to radically transform the centre around Coventry market, creating a pedestrian-friendly residential, shopping and leisure hub.
Phase 1 includes 991 homes as well as 8,000 sq m of commercial space, all set within 17,000 sq m of public open space.
Phase 2 will provide further commercial space and up to 584 homes.
Andy Fancy, managing director at The Hill Group, said: “We are committed to carrying out the archaeological investigation works at City Centre South both safely and sensitively to protect any historical findings before the start of construction.
“These works are a routine part of the development process and essential due to the development’s location at the heart of Coventry’s historic centre.”
