North Yorkshire-based steelwork specialist SH Structures fell into administration owing £4.5m to suppliers and subcontractors.

The scale of the firm’s debts have been revealed in an update posted at Companies House.

SH Structures also owed HMRC £370,000 and its employees nearly £1m.

The firm went into administration in April when all of its 67 staff were made redundant.

It had been in business since 1992 working as a structural steelwork contractor specialising in the design, fabrication and installation of complex structures.

Its high-profile projects include the monumental Kelpies steel horse-heads near Falkirk in Scotland (above) , Hull’s eye-catching Murdoch bridge, and the PoliNations public sculpture of five giant architectural steel trees in Birmingham.

SH Structures worked across the whole UK on projects up to £5m in value and saw its turnover peak at £10m in 2023.

The administrators blamed its demise on cash-flow issues, problems with ongoing contracts and workloads dropping-off.
