In London, a third of the water mains are over 150 years old and half are over 100 years old. Some of these mains have significantly deteriorated over time, contributing to high leakage levels.
Browne will undertake critical renewal work aimed at reducing leakage, enhancing water quality, and improving the resilience of the supply network.
The contract will see Browne renewing pipework within high priority District Metered Areas (DMAs) in the Boroughs of Greenwich, Brent, Enfield, Lambeth and Guildford.
Barry Jones, Operations Director, responsible for the delivery of the mains renewal programme, said: “This contract win represents an exceptional opportunity for Browne to deliver critical infrastructure improvements across London and the South-East through Thames Water’s AMP8 programme.
“Building on our exceptional track record, including replacing over 70km of Victorian mains for Thames Water in AMP7 across more than 100 schemes, we have consistently reduced client takeover timescales from 30 days to an average of just 8 days from project completion.”
