Working together the TRUWest Alliance of BAM, Arup, Amey, and Network Rail will deliver the next phase of the TRUWest project over three and a half years completing in 2028.
BAM and Amey will share £800m each with the remainder to Arup on design related work.
It will cover a range of multi-disciplinary railway upgrades between Huddersfield and Leeds, transforming journeys and bringing more frequent, reliable and greener travel to the North.
The alliance will deliver upgrades to six stations, significant earthworks, nine new bridges and a multi-span viaduct.
Signalling work across 28 miles of route will increase reliability and reduce delays, while an increase in tracks from two to four between Huddersfield and Ravensthorpe will reduce journey times and congestion.
The installation of overhead line equipment (OLE) will support the reduction of the UK’s carbon footprint and improve air quality, and new tracks and drainage will increase line speeds and enhance service reliability.

BAM’s appointment to the next phase of TRUWest, builds on the success of the TRUWest Alliance over the last seven years.
The recent completion of work along the route between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge, now allows for electric rather than diesel powered trains to travel along the line, resulting in faster, greener and more reliable journeys for travellers across the North of England.
TRUWest is part of the major, multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade programme, transforming journeys to passengers travelling across the Pennines between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.
