The industry has become increasingly frustrated by delays in the system as the regulator confirmed around 122 schemes are stuck-in the system awaiting Gateway 2 approval.
Prime Minister Kier Starmer briefly addressed the issue as part of a raft of new house building announcements today.
Among the round-up of new and existing initiatives Starmer pledged “£2 million to support the Building Safety Regulator to continue improving the processing for new-build applications.”
He added: “Responding to sector concerns on pinch points, work is stepping up with the Building Safety Regulator to ensure greater timeliness and efficiency when new tall buildings are signed off – to provide more homes for more people.”
The cash could be used to bring more resources in-house for the regulator to assess applications.
The government’s latest announcement on house building also included progress on the next generation of new towns.
