We are looking to recruit a number of Quantity Surveyors in our Yorkshire Region at various levels of seniority due to our robust pipeline of work secured across multiple clients. The Role:
Barhale has secured a place on Yorkshire Water’s Complex Non-Infrastructure Framework to support the delivery of the water company’s capital investment programme through the forthcoming Asset Management Plan 8 (AMP8) period from April 2025 to 2030. The delivery of the £850M lot will cover both water and wastewater sites with projects typically ranging from £1m to £35m although with no upper limit. To support the delivery of these projects, we have secured a new depot and office in Leeds.
Quantity Surveyors at Barhale are integral members of project teams. They provide support to the project delivery teams and senior management daily. The Senior Quantity Surveyor will provide commercial support to project teams, maintaining commercial information and ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and the company’s ‘Three Pillar’ objectives. They will liaise with customer representatives and other third parties on commercial issues including agreement of variations, claims and any additional payments.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial
- Accurate and timely cost and value reporting at both project and business unit levels to inform Group reporting
- Accurate cash flow reporting
- Cost management and project forecasting
- Drafting and updating a monthly CVR, cost and commercial plans
- Compilation of upstream applications for payment and cash management
- Responsibility for subcontract procurement, negotiation and financial accounting
- Preparation of project applications for payment to final account settlement
- Liaison with clients, client representatives and other third parties on commercial issues, including agreement on matters relating to contractual change, claims and additional payment
- Work with the wider project team to forecast predicted expenditure and cash recovery to ensure that both are in line with business unit expectation
- Share best practices with others and take a proactive approach in advising site teams on cost management and efficiencies
- Identification and realisation of commercial opportunities
- Protect Barhale from commercial risks
Contracts
- Effectively manage contract and subcontract agreements, primarily NEC form of contract
- Ensure that main contracts entered into have terms and conditions that align to Barhale’s corporate governance, with commercial risks and opportunities identified and managed in conjunction with the project delivery team.
- Procurement of subcontracted works and subsequent subcontract post contract management
- Ensure that the supply chain is engaged appropriately with the correct contract terms and conditions
- Supply chain management including building and maintaining relationships
