The nine-storey tower block on the college’s King’s Lynn campus was expected to cost around £10m and attracted interest from Apollo, Morgan Sindall, ISG and Wates.
But estimators at R G Carter trimmed the price down to £7.5m to win the revamp of the largest educational building in the region.
The design and build refurb job includes replacing all the windows and re-cladding the whole exterior as well as building an extension to the ground floor to house new restaurant and social facilities for students.
Internal works will include complete new floor layouts as well as new heating, lighting and elevator systems and should be be completed by summer 2013.
