Demolition is now underway on the London road site which will contain a new 86,000 sq ft Asda supermarket with 100 private residential apartments above the store.
There will also be 350 lower ground and ground level car parking spaces.
Bouygues Development is also responsible for the delivery of part of a new public space which will form a pedestrian thoroughfare in Barking’s town centre, linking the supermarket to the new 45,000 sq ft Technical Skills Academy run by Barking & Dagenham College which is currently under construction.
The supermarket and surrounding work is due to be completed by early 2015.
Stephane Slama-Royer, Managing Director of Bouygues Development, said: “This is an exciting stage in the regeneration of Barking Town Centre and the wider area. Having ASDA on board is a key aspect of the scheme’s success and we are very pleased to be working in partnership with such a committed food store operator.”
