The site for the bridge and associated road improvements is known as Temple Quay 3 and the HCA is working to a budget of between £7m and £12m.
Existing riverbanks are unstable in places and a piled solution is proposed to prevent future failure of the riverbanks. During construction it is proposed that these piles will also provide support of the bridge deck before being cut back to below the riverbank.
The winning contractor has the option of novating the existing design or using their own.
Under the present design the top chords of the bridge are formed from a curved truss. The three lane carriageway is separated from the cycleway by the truss, whose members spring from the walkway.
The bridge will open up the Temple Quay regeneration site, which is earmarked for a mixed use scheme.
