Balfour Beatty and Laing O’Rourke beat off bids led by Taylor Woodrow, Carillion and Bovis Lend Lease for work which will involve tearing down the existing Alder Hey hospital and replacing it with a state-of-the-art health park.
Project director Richard Glenn said: “We are delighted two such major organisations want to work with us to deliver what will be a tremendous facility.”
The Balfour Beatty team includes specialist healthcare architect Anshen and Allen while architect BDP and FM provider Interserve are part of the Laing O’Rourke consortium.
Final tenders will be submitted to client Alder Hey NHS Foundation Trust next March with a preferred bidder due to be named in June. Construction will start in April 2012 and take two-and-a-half years to complete.
