The contractor is up against Interserve Project Services in the third sets of schools to come out of both the North West and Midlands regions.
It is also pitted against Wates in the East and BAM in the North East, where the second clutches of schools are coming out to tender.
Shortlisted bidders
- Midlands 3 (£39m) – Interserve and Kier Regional – 8 schools (Birmingham, Sandwell, Staffordshire, Wolverhampton)
- North West 3 (£48m) – Interserve and Kier Regional – 6 school (Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Salford, Tameside )
- East 2 (£60m) – Wates and Kier Regional (£60m) – 6 schools (Essex, Hertfordshire, Peterborough, Suffolk )
- North East 2 (£63m) – Kier Regional and BAM Construction – 7 schools ( Hartlepool, Redcar and Cleveland, Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland)
These bidders will now proceed to the invitation to tender stage.
Interserve will be looking for its first win from the publicly funded schools programme after losing out to Kier in the South earlier this year.
This latest batch of schools was brought forward when the Government announced in May it would be extending the programme with £300m of extra capital funding in the current spending review period.
