The plans have been put in by Hungate Regeneration Ltd – a joint venture between Lend Lease and Evans Property Group.
Richard Cook, Lend Lease’s Head of Residential, said: “We are delighted to have the planning application submitted for these first-class homes in the historic town of York.
“We have been working closely with City of York Council throughout the planning process and have incorporated feedback from the public and other civic bodies including York Archaeological Trust following consultation in order to deliver homes for residents in York which they can be proud of.
“Their central location in the heart of the city with access to restaurants, retail and transport makes them an ideal investment and we are excited to be able to build them for home-buyers.”
Hungate is based in one of the most historic parts of York and was the subject of a major archaeological dig conducted by York Archaeological Trust and funded by the Developers, which revealed artefacts dating back to the Roman period.
The site has now been fully investigated by the Trust.
