Costain on hunt for Welsh subcontractors

Costain is holding a suppliers day next month to set out work opportunities in Wales.

Project managers from each of Costain’s major projects in Wales as well as representatives from Costain’s rail, new nuclear, water and power and distribution businesses will be on hand at the free event in Newport on 3 December.

The day is also being backed by the Welsh Government and will see Dafydd Hughes, the head of construction sector, spell out investment plans for the future.

Sarah Thomas, an Assistant Supply Chain Manager at Costain said: “The work is out there and this event is a fantastic opportunity to get involved and become part of a team that is capable of delivering headline projects like the Tidal Lagoon Swansea Bay and the A465 Heads of the Valley Dualling, for Wales.

“Our supply chain is fundamental to the success of Costain. It is therefore vital that we develop relationships that align with Costain’s strategy in order to help drive the business forward.”

She added: “There is a wealth of talent and expertise within the SME sector and this event gives potential contractors an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities and grab the attention of the project teams delivering these influential schemes on behalf of the Welsh Government.

“It will be an introduction to the team who is delivering the project, rather than just buyers, and they will also have the opportunity to build relationships within Costain across various sectors.

“We will also provide them with tools to push their business forward, whether it is through one of our tender or technology workshops, or through our Supply Chain Academy, or through sharing our own initiatives with them.”

Also on hand will be the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), Sell2Wales, the Carbon Trust and Achilles, the procurement and supply chain management service organisation.

The event is due to take place from 9am on December 3rd at The Lodge, Celtic Manor Resort, Newport.
