The injured man was working on repairs to the runway which juts out into the sea.

It is believed part of the runway gave way yesterday leaving the digger dangling over the waves.

Shetland Police conformed on Twitter: “Dealt with an incident involving a “digger” at Sumburgh Airport. 1 male injured, flights unaffected.”
