The two contractors have been shortlisted for the £10m Doncaster school project, which has been lined up by Government as the model for how schools should be built after Building Schools for the Future.

The Campsmount Technology College suffered significant fire damage almost two years ago and since then schools kids have been taught in Portacabins.

While other schools failed to get financial backing in Doncaster under the BSF review, Campsmount was picked out as a special case.

As a result the Department for Education has chose this project to pilot more efficient procurement methods, recently proposed in the review headed by Sebastian James.

One of the main goals is to trim procurement to 25 weeks.

In keeping with this aim, a preferred bidder will be named before the end of the year to allow construction to start in next March.

A Department for Education spokesman said: “The independent Capital Review team is working with building companies on a pilot proposal to rebuild Campsmount Technology College in Doncaster.

“Under plans, the new school could be potentially built ahead of the original schedule and with significant cost savings.”
