Latest figures from the Advertising Association highlight the change as spending on marketing rose last year as the economy recovered.
Total ad spending across all industries is expected to rise 5.5% next year and 6.5% in 2015 taking adspend past £20bn.
Total spending was £17.9bn last year as digital advertising continued to grow.
Spending on print magazine advertising fell 5.7% in 2013 but that was more than offset by a 7.1% jump in digital spending.
Recruitment advertising also enjoyed a better year and is expected to grow by 1% and 3% over the coming years.
Tim Lefroy, Chief Executive at the Advertising Association said: “The forecast explosion in mobile advertising and digital formats points to UK advertising at the centre of a global revolution in consumer information, service and choice.”
