Betting Spy: Scotland to bounce Czechs

What’s a gambling man supposed to do without Premiership football all weekend and not even an England international to risk our cash on?

Well , it’s time to use a phrase not often heard in public – back Scotland to win an away international football match.

Craig Levein’s lads visit the Czech Republic and both sides have been priced up on reputation by the bookies.

Scotland are not as bad as the oddsmakers think while the Czechs are a fading force whose glory days are long gone.

Victor Chandler has priced Scotland up at 5/1 which is too big against a side coming off a 1-0 home defeat to Lithuania.

Scotland have already beaten the Czechs at home so here’s to a repeat performance on their patch.

Let’s hope the team follow in the footsteps of fellow countryman Colin Montgomerie who skippered that magnificent Ryder Cup win last week.

What a game that was. It takes a lot to lever me off the sofa but I was jumping around all over the place as Graham McDowell held his nerve magnificently.

And Miguel Angel Jimenez swigging vintage Rioja straight from the bottle as all around sprayed champagne was one of the great sporting celebrations.

McDowell’s heroics have seen him leap to the head of the Sports Personality of the Year betting.

The sudden move has seen our ante-post tip Tony McCoy eased out to 2/1 second favourite with Paddy Power.

I think McCoy is still a good bet at that price and I wouldn’t be surprised to see his odds shorten as the memory of the Ryder Cup fades.

I can see the Ryder Cup lads winning team of the year while McDowell is pipped to the main prize by national hunt’s finest.

McCoy is used to fighting out tight finishes and this could be another race the jockey just pokes his nose in front for.
