Balfour Beatty has drafted in four leading industry figures to strengthen its senior team in the construction services division.

The key appointments bolster Balfour Beatty’s management at its major projects, regional and engineering services business streams as the contractor experiences an uplift in major building projects in the south east and nuclear power and decommissioning orders.

At the major projects business, Alun Williams  joins from Laing O’Rourke to take up the new position of executive general manager for the energy and power sector.

Alun Williams

Willams, who joined this month, brings experience from managing successful nuclear power station bids at O’Rourke and from his leadership at Jacobs where he had responsibility for operational and commercial performance.

He takes responsibility for Balfour’s new nuclear and nuclear decommissioning work.

The Balfour Beatty regional business has recruited Paul Gandy to lead a new major construction delivery unit for the design and construction of major property schemes in London and the South East.

Gandy joins in August from Lend Lease where over the last five years he was head of operations for the EMEA construction arm and recently operations director for the £1.2bn Elephant and Castle regeneration project.

At its previously troubled engineering services business Balfour Beatty makes two senior appointments.

Simon Higginson

Simon Higginson (above) will join next month as commercial director. He brings extensive commercial experience and has led a number of major PFI projects and the Birmingham Building Schools for the Future programme for Lend Lease, where he has been senior commercial director.

Barry De Falco (below) has been appointed as operations director for engineering services in London and the South East and will report to Bob Vickers, the regional director when he takes ip the role next month.

Brian De Falco

Previously he spent 12 years on the board of building services contractor T Clarke.

Nicholas Pollard, Balfour Beatty Construction Services UK chief executive officer, said:  “I am delighted to welcome four new seasoned industry leaders to Balfour Beatty.

“We continue to attract and retain the best UK talent and leaders within our industry to collaborate with our customers, drive innovation and improve safety, productivity, quality and profits.”
