Work on the project will start at the end of July and include steelwork strengthening and repairs to the original wrought iron structure and decorative scrolls built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Spans one to three are listed by English Heritage as a Grade 1 structure. It is hoped that the refurbishment of the spans will improve the internal appearance and environment of the station and extend the service life of the roof.

Neil Barnes, rail director at Morgan Sindall, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to the next phase of refurbishment at Paddington Station.

“Our team has a wealth of specialist rail experience and will carry out the work from a suspended scaffold above the live railway platforms to ensure the day to day running of the station can continue with minimal disruption.”

The contract award follows on from Morgan Sindall’s successful completion of Paddington Station’s Span 4, which was finished in September 2011.
