The firm will deliver a varied package of infrastructure works at the site under a £39m contract.
Peel is developing the UK’s first tri-modal – served by road, rail and short-sea shipping – inland port facility and distribution park on the Barton Strategic Site adjacent to the Manchester Ship Canal.
Planning permission has been granted for 1.7 million sq ft of rail-served distribution warehousing, rail link and sidings and intermodal and ancillary facilities including a canal quay.

Private rail works
Creation of a new rail connection to the port, PWay, slab track construction, Telecoms and Embankment stabilisation, Embankment construction other earthworks ground improvement works, drainage, landscaping and fencing.
Quayside berth works
Dredging, bulk earthworks and filling, marine works, dolphin and fenders, creation of hard standing and crane working areas.
Civil engineering works:
Highway connection works, bulk earthworks and drainage, on site carriageways and roads, footpaths, airfield remediation works, site security, site services and communications
Bridge works
Bridges over the A57 and existing water courses.
Site remediation and bulk earthworks
Large-scale civil engineering works, including remediation of the existing site and the creation of a serviced development platform.
