The works will include improving lighting in the notorious M4 bottleneck – with the westbound tunnel having been fitted out with temporary strip lighting since the 2011 fire when a lorry exploded in the tunnel.
Improvements to the Malpas Viaduct and Usk River Bridge are also included in the contract package which will be let as an early contractor involvement deal.
Work is due to start next year and be completed in 2016. Up to £40m has been allocated to the project over two years.
Interested firms have until 19 December to complete PQQs, which can be found on the eTenderWales website, PQQ/ITT search code 31688.
Five shortlisted firm will then be invited to tender in January.
